  • The Curtain is a production company that brings epic stories to audiences in every form: live theatre, immersive events, digital media and more. Founded by Producing Artistic Director Sean Hagerty, the company creates accessible interpretations of classic works with a focus on international and cross-cultural exchange.

    Founded in 2018, the company began as 'Shakespeare@ Grace Church', premiering with a lush and immersive Hamlet starring Jonathan Forbes (Amazon’s Catastrophe) and SAG Award nominee Eden Brolin (Paramount’s Yellowstone). Hailed as “theatrical perfection,” it sold out its run at Grace Church Van Vorst.

    When the pandemic closed theatres in 2020, the company pivoted to an all-audio, immersive series, Shakespeare@ Home, created with the Emmy-winning team at Sonic Designs. Reviving the golden-age of serialized radio drama of the 1930s and ’40s, the series features actors from across the globe such as Jamie Ballard (Harry Potter in the West End’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), RSC veteran David Hargreaves, Tony nominee and Grammy winner Patrick Page, and more. Shakespeare@ Home has earned award nominations and acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

    Rebranding as The Curtain the company returned to live performance in 2023  with a sold-out Romeo & Juliet, starring TV sensation Aria Shahghasemi and Venice Film Festival Award Winner Anita Pomario in her American stage debut.

    From stage to sound to screen and beyond, The Curtain believes great stories belong where the audiences are.

Meet the Team

  • Sean Hagerty

    PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

    Sean Hagerty trained under Sanford Meisner and studied classical theatre at the renowned Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He holds a Masters Degree in Shakespeare and Theatre from the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he graduated with Distinction. Sean has worked as an actor, teacher, director, and producer regionally and internationally for many years. Credits include: New York Classical Theatre, The Lord Chamberlain's Men, The Group Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, The Bath Shakespeare Festival, The New Vic, Theatre Royal Bristol, and BBC Radio, among others. Previously, Sean was the resident Shakespeare and Style teacher at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre for over 14 years and was the Associate Artistic Director for New York Classical Theatre. He has served as the chair of Education & Training for the international Shakespeare Theatre Association and as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts.

  • Christine Cirker

    ASSOCIATE PRODUCER

    Christine Cirker is an Off-Broadway producer and director, focusing primarily on new work. She is Executive Vice-President of the League of Professional Theatre Women. As producing director for F.A.B. Women@tbg (The Barrow Group’s women’s development project), she has directed and produced since 2010. NY producing credits include: Chasing Happy (Oct. 2023) and Strings Attached (Pulse Theatre), Letters to Sala by Arlene Hutton, Renata Hinrich’s Random Acts, Jean Taylor’s The Basement Plays among others. In the independent film world, Christine is currently on the producing team for The Red Shoe and Associate Producer for the documentary feature Unbroken. Directing credits include NYC and beyond. Graduate of University of Michigan.

  • Fred O. Dery

    DIGITAL MEDIA AND MARKETING CONSULTANT

    Fred O. Dery is a Digital Media and Marketing consultant at The Curtain, where he helps brands and cultural organizations translate ambition into audience. His work spans strategy, video production, and content programming — with a track record that includes a cross-Atlantic campaign generating 1.3M+ impressions on a sub-$5K budget, and video and podcast productions featuring Academy, Emmy, and Tony Award–winning talent. Fred brings nearly a decade of international production experience across Montréal, New York, and Lisbon, having led campaigns for Kenzo, L'Oréal, HSBC, and Universal Music Group. He pairs an editorial sensibility with sharp commercial instincts — the kind of consultant who can shape the idea, run the shoot, and read the analytics after.

  • Robin Carus

    CASTING DIRECTOR

    Robin Carus is a Webby, Hermes, Davey, and Telly Award winning Casting Director whose work spans theatre, film, television, commercials, and digital media. Recent and favorite credits include The Drama Desk nominated best musical Beau and the Drama Desk nominated best revival of a play Ceremonies in Dark Old Men. Select casting credits include Broken Snow (starring Tony Danza, Tom Cavanagh, and MIchael Longfellow), Elijah Able (mini-series), Pay the Writer (Signature Theatre), Now Hear This (PBS), James McNeill Whistler and the Case For Beauty (PBS), October 7 (Off-Broadway, National Tour, and Kennedy Center Productions). Previously, she was the Casting Director for TheatreworksUSA where she cast 200 national tours and their off-Broadway season at The Lucille Lortel Theatre including acclaimed productions of Seussical (dir. Marcia Milgrom Dodge) and Sarah, Plain and Tall (dir. Joe Calarco). She sits on the Board of Casting Society Cares and the Advisory Boards of the EPIC Players and Ego Actus Theatre Company.
